Yarram woman dies after road crash at Foster

A 60-year-old Yarram woman died while being airlifted to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne after the car she was driving crashed on the South Gippsland Highway at Foster on Friday night September 11, 2020.

A Victoria Police spokesman said the woman’s car struck and killed a wombat on a sweeping righthand bend on the South Gippsland Highway, east of the Foster Tip entrance, before hitting a tree at about 10 pm.

Emergency services responded, including the Foster Police and the Fish Creek CFA Road Accident Rescue team, along with two Foster CFA appliances and crews and one appliance and crew from the Toora CFA.

Fish Creek Road Accident Rescue cut the trapped driver from the vehicle before she was flown to the Alfred Hospital, tragically passing away on route.

Police are investigating the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
