Woorarra West woman dies in Foster North crash

A 79-year-old Woorarra West woman has died after the car she was driving crashed into another vehicle on the South Gippsland Highway at Foster North at about 7.20 am on Monday August 22, 2022.

A Victoria Police Wonthaggi Highway Patrol spokesman said the Woorarra West woman was making a right-hand turn from the Foster-Mirboo Road onto the Highway when her car collided with an oncoming vehicle travelling east towards Foster.

The driver of the first vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by Ambulance Victoria officers.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 48-year-old Dumbalk woman, was conveyed by Ambulance Victoria to the Latrobe Regional Hospital in Traralgon where she was admitted for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The Victoria Police spokesman said each woman was the only occupant of their respective cars.

“There is a Give Way sign at the intersection of the Foster-Mirboo Road and the South Gippsland Highway and it seems as though the driver of the first vehicle failed to give way,” he said.

The South Gippsland Highway was closed to traffic in both directions between Falls Road and O’Gradys Ridge Road until about 12.30 pm while the accident scene was investigated.

“Multiple Country Fire Authority units, from Fish Creek, Milford and Toora, provided support and traffic control at and around the scene,” the spokesman said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, with information or dashcam footage, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
