Wilbur Wilde and friends at Foster January 16

OUR holiday tradition continues with our friends Wilbur Wilde and his lifelong friend Lisa Edwards joining their band that includes one of Australia’s most recognised drummers, Freddie Strauks (ex-Skyhooks) to bring you a night not to be missed on Saturday 16th January at the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre.

Wilbur, along with his family and many talented local musicians including Geoff “Dog” Sparkes have entertained the people of South Gippsland for over ten years. This year again promises to be a major event, brought to you by the Foster Football Club.

Lisa Edwards began her career as a solo artist and was invited to join John Farnham’s band in 1988. She has worked with (amongst others) Yoko Ono, Olivia Newton-John, Billy Thorpe and the Black Sorrows. She was also part of the ‘Tour Of Duty’ in appreciation of Australia’s peacekeeping effort in East Timor. She continues with her solo career and as a permanent member of the John Farnham band.

Wilbur Wilde has a special association with Foster and the South Gippsland community that goes back to the 70s and has made a significant contribution over the previous ten years to this event. He initially rose to prominence with the bands Ol’ 55 and Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons and over a 35 year career has also performed with Skyhooks, Elvis Costello, Split Enz, Dire Straits, The Angels, Dragon, Cold Chisel and James Reyne. He is most famous for his 15 year association with ‘Hey, Hey It’s Saturday’ which reappeared in 2010.

Tickets for this great show on 16th January are only $30 adults each or $15 for people under 18 (underage strictly no alcohol). Please BYO everything. Limited tables will be available. This is a community event for young and old. Doors open 7:30 p.m.

This year’s support group will be “The Grand Ole Factory Band”, a collection of muso’s who get together on a Sunday arvo at what was the old Butter Factory in Foster. They get together to enjoy the company and the musical skills of each other, learn from each other, share with each other and just have a little bit of fun.

The band on the night will be made up of seven males and one female. The line-up is Gary Eldred, Sally Baldwin (Eldred), Joe Eldred, Andrew (Mitch) Mitchell, Brendan (Batman) Roberts, Gavin Westaway, Peter (Luvy) Wright and Geoff (Dog) Sparkes.

The ages of the line-up are “unknown”, the calendar doesn’t go back that far!

The traditional highlights will continue, with special guest Geoff Sparkes helping put on a wonderful show. Remember: doors open 7:30pm. Be early! Don’t miss it!
