Summer by the Sea 2012

THE annual festival of all things marine and coastal, ‘Summer by the Sea,’ began at the start of January and continues until January 22. Run by the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE), there are events scheduled for the entire Victorian coast, including a range of beaches across South Gippsland. Participate in a range of family friendly activities, including rockpool rambles, kayak adventures, marine monitoring, nature walks, geology adventures and snorkelling safaris.

General guidelines for all festival activities

  • Wear sturdy shoes, not thongs. Shoes that can get wet and cover your feet are best.
  • Be SunSmart for all daytime activities, even on overcast days.
  • Remember to take a hat, bring sunscreen and wear a shirt.
  • Bring drinking water and insect repellent with you.
  • Children under 12 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Most activities are suitable for people of varying abilities, however please notify activity leaders if you have any special needs.
  • All festival activities are weather dependent. DSE reserves the right to cancel activities in the event of poor weather conditions or bushfires.
  • To ensure the safety and enjoyment of your fellow participants follow the activity leader’s instructions.
