Street artist Heesco Khosnaran returns to Yarram

HEESCO has spent the last couple of months in Mongolia and Russia mentoring and doing art with disadvantaged kids.

“I’m really feeling the cold but love being back in Yarram,” he said. “I am staying at the Ship Inn again where the owner, Paul Frost, commissioned me a while ago to do a large mural of a ship.”

Heesco’s relationship with the area began when he and Bull Bar creator Wayne Tindall worked together on the Foster Skate Park with some local kids. It was all organised by Rebecca Matthews from Manna Gum community house.

Owner of the Bull Bar, Anne Tindall, had the idea of getting Heesco back to paint the two huge walls in her Gallery.

“I have sold the Bar to the young couple, Robert and Renae Long, who have been working with me doing the food for the last six months,” Anne explains. “I wanted to leave them with some spectacular art on the walls. We decided to go halves in the cost of getting Heesco back to paint.”

This is the third time Heesco has painted at the Bull Bar. He did the massive bull in the front then did a huge mural in the back yard that in November will become a sunny and secluded beer garden.

“I am so thrilled that Renae and Robert wanted to buy the business. It needs to be open more often and I just don’t have that kind of energy anymore,” Anne said.

From November when Renae and Robert take over, the Bar will be open three nights a week.

“Friday nights are packed, and everyone seems to be loving the live music and exquisite food,” said Anne. “Renae is an incredible cook and the dishes are all lovingly prepared from local produce – a lot of which comes from their own garden. Her desserts are just so good.”

Anne and Wayne will still be around to support Robert and Renae when they take over in November.

“Wayne and I love the area and plan to stay on forever. The town has really got behind us and I’m sure they will do the same for the new owners.”

Regarding Heesco, Anne says that there are plans, led by some long time Yarram residents, to get him back soon to do some exciting street art.

In the meantime, he’s off to New York and Mexico then to Sweden for Christmas.

To contact the Bull Bar you can still call Anne on 0418 990 637.
