Set for an ace tennis season

FOSTER Tennis Club is inviting aspiring tennis players to participate in an Open Day at the courts in Pioneer Street this Sunday, October 3.

Come along for a hit from 12 noon and hear about the opportunities to play tennis at Foster – once the weather has finally improved! There will be a host of giveaways, a barbecue and the chance to join a friendly club.

Tennis is played at Foster throughout the year, either socially or in competition, during the day and evenings. Saturday tennis starts this week and an evening competition will begin shortly.

Last week some of the district’s youngest residents had a shot at tennis. They participated in a coaching session organised by local parent Alex Ellis. She invited Ian and assistant Justin from South Gippsland Tennis Coaching to run a coaching clinic at the Foster courts. Around a dozen 4 to 10-year-olds enjoyed a hit from Monday to Thursday. Another clinic was held at Fish Creek.

South Gippsland Coaching is the new name for Mark Sheppard Tennis Coaching, a long established Gippsland business. With Mark and his wife Annette spending increasing amounts of time in Melbourne and Geelong, the reins of the popular coaching enterprise have been handed over to Matthew Pocklington.

Foster Tennis Club, which is always on the look out for new members, hopes last week’s coaching clinics inspired a few more people to consider playing tennis.

Members and non-members are welcome to come along to Sunday’s open day. There is no need to book, but for further information telephone Wendy Appleyard on 5682 2102.
