Scholarship program to benefit local youth

ONCE again a Promontory District student will benefit from our scholarship program, which will supplement their study costs in their first year of higher education. The Toora & Foster Community Bank Llew Vale Scholarship was launched because the Bank believed local students deserved every opportunity to achieve their dreams.

Jan Bull, Chair of the Toora & Foster Community Bank Branches said “An investment in education yields great long-term dividends and by helping young people gain access to tertiary education, the returns to the student, their families and the local community are significant. Applications will also be considered from students wishing to undertake study at TAFE.

“The Community Bank Scholarship Program is a transformative undertaking that changes the lives of local students, strengthens communities for the long term and is a tangible example of the good that banking with us can achieve.

“Our young people are our future and we believe they deserve the best support possible to help forge their careers and achieve their dreams.”

Successful scholarship applicants will initially receive funding for one year, and depending on academic performance the scholarship, may be renewed to assist in the second year of their study.

Applications are invited from eligible students, starting their studies in 2023, from 12th September 2022. Applications close on 27th January 2023 and will be assessed in early February 2023.

Last year, the Toora & Foster Community Bank Llew Vale Scholarship supported local student Tayla Stefani with her Bachelor Degree Education at Monash.

Tayla says “The Llew Vale scholarship has made my transition into university life stress free and manageable.

“So far I have been loving my course! I’m really enjoying it and am about to start my first school placement, which is both exciting and nerve racking.

“I’ve settled in quite well into Uni life. Living on campus has been lots of fun and I’ve made friends in my on-campus hall which helped to make my transition to Melbourne easier. Being only a small walk away from my classes has been a massive bonus too!”

The Toora & Foster Community Bank Llew Vale Scholarship is part of the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Scholarship Program, which partners with Community Bank branches, Rural Bank and The University of Melbourne.

The program has now supported over 1,336 students, with more than $11 million in funding since its inception in 2007.
