READERS of all ages and of every genre will rejoice this Friday and Saturday, July 7 and 8, 2023 because those are the dates of the Friends of the Corner Inlet Libraries’ next winter book sale at the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre in Main Street.

The front doors of the FWMAC will open at 9 am on Friday, ready to welcome the crowd of keen early-birds, some of whom always assemble well ahead of the start in order to have first pick of the many recent releases available at bargain prices.

Others will come to peruse the vinyl records and the music and film compact discs, while the dissectologists of the Corner Inlet district will pounce on the jigsaw puzzles, and information-seekers will scour the non-fiction and reference sections of the sale.

FOCIL book sale co-ordinator Liz Kindellan said an incredible number of donations had been received from the local community since the summer book sale in January this year, and that all of the trestle tables will be well and truly laden at this sale.

“We will have a lot of quality cooking and gardening books on offer, as well as a  range of handcraft, art, do-it-yourself and lifestyle books,” she said.

“There are plenty of picture and first chapter books for younger children, and some great reading for both the middle-year and young adult age groups.

“And, as always at all of our book sales, right at the top of our best-seller list is crime fiction, and there will be literally thousands of murder mystery titles to choose from for winter 2023,” Liz said.

“As the famous author Anthony Horovitz says, ‘As far as I’m concerned, you can’t beat a good whodunnit: the twists and turns, the clues and the red herrings and then, finally, the satisfaction of having everything explained to you in a way that makes you kick yourself because you hadn’t seen it from the start.’”

The proceeds from the FOCIL book sales go towards the purchase of new material and equipment for the Foster Library branch of the Myli Community Library.

The FOCIL winter 2023 book sale will be open from 9 am to 4 pm on Friday, July 7, and from 9 am until 1.30 pm on Saturday, July 8.
