Paul Greenhalgh appointed Chief Executive Officer at South Gippsland Hospital

• Board Chair Sue Pilkington with new CEO Paul Greenhalgh.

SOUTH Gippsland Hospital’s interim Chief Executive Officer Paul Greenhalgh has been appointed as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Board Chair Sue Pilkington said “Paul took on the interim role in April 2020 when health services in Victoria were in the early stages of preparing a response to COVID-19. Since then he has led the team at South Gippsland Hospital through one of the most challenging periods of operation that any health service leader could face”.

Ms Pilkington said that under Paul’s leadership over the past eight months South Gippsland Hospital has been able to maintain its usual high standard of healthcare to our community, as well as being a key player in the local and sub-regional responses to COVID-19.

“During that time Paul has also been responsible for the completion and commissioning of the Theatre and Maternity Upgrade, refurbishment of Banksia Lodge to expand the range of services we can provide; additional Commonwealth funding to support provision of community-based services out of Banksia for the next three years; implementation of the Seniors Day Stay pilot programme and a successful application for funding from Department of Health and Human Services to redesign the former operating theatre space.

“Paul’s work in leading the team at South Gippsland Hospital since April has been exceptional. The Board is delighted that he has accepted its offer to become our Chief Executive Officer and we look forward to continuing our work with Paul and the wonderful team at South Gippsland Hospital.”

Mr Greenhalgh is equally as delighted to accept the role.

“The year 2020 is behind us, and the South Gippsland Hospital is stronger for the experience. It is a privilege to lead this health service into 2021 and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue in the role. The support the Board, Staff, Volunteers, Prom Country Aged Care, Foster Medical Centre, and the broader community provide enables South Gippsland Hospital to deliver the best healthcare possible. It really has been and continues to be a real team effort, demonstrating that we are living our core values.”
