New Medical Equipment Loan Program at SGH

TO MEET the changing needs of the community, South Gippsland Hospital (SGH) has partnered with G-Mobility to provide and manage hospital equipment available for hire or purchase. This will ensure that the equipment is always up to date and equipment out on loan is returned on time for others who may need it.

Hospital staff will be available from 9am to 3.30pm weekdays to assist you with equipment requirements but as much notice as possible will help them to provide you with exactly what you need. However, on weekends or after hours, SGH will be unable to loan any equipment other than crutches and wheelchairs.

There will be a small fee payable to the equipment supplier for the loan of equipment and most items are available for purchase if this is more economical. The hospital also has a process in place to support any client who may be experiencing financial hardship.

Users of the new system are encouraged wherever possible to discuss their needs with a health professional prior to using any equipment.

“If you are having a hip operation in Melbourne and need an over-toilet-frame, let us know and our hospital staff will work with your health team in Melbourne to ensure you have equipment for when you go home. The discharging hospital in this case, will pay the fee associated with any loaned equipment,” said Physiotherapist, Taryn Comben.

“You may be taking your elderly father to Melbourne for an appointment and need a wheelchair. Come into the hospital a couple of days beforehand and organise to hire one from us. For a small fee payable to our equipment supplier, you can pick it up on the day or day before.

“Perhaps you have been hurt playing football and need some crutches for a few days. We would encourage you to seek advice from a doctor or health professional and if you still need crutches, come into the hospital and arrange to hire some, again for a small fee,” Taryn suggested.
