HUNGRY golfers and members of the general public will be pleased to know that the kitchen at Foster Golf Club will re- open tomorrow – Thurs- day June 24.

Will Kranen and Corry O’Neill have taken over the lease and will be running O’Neill Kranen Pizza Pasta, to be known as ‘OK Pizza Pasta,’ of- fering dine in or take away service.

Of course, as the many people who have sam- pled Will and Corry’s cooking in the past will know, the food will un- doubtedly be much bet- ter than ‘OK.’

Will and Corry will also be offering more than pizza and pasta. A menu listing the meals avail- able has been posted out to households around Foster this week. Among the main meals are ‘smoked chicken salad,’ ‘seared kanga- roo’ and ‘open lamb souvlaki.’ There are kids’ meals for just $7 each and there will be half a dozen specials each day, as well as a special lunch menu offering light meals.

“We hope to cater to all tastes,” said Will. “Food will be available all day.”

He is looking forward to working just down the road from his Fish Creek home. Corry also lives in Fish Creek.

Until the devastating fire, the pair worked at Henrietta’s Café in Leon- gatha. Corry had been there for three years and was head chef. Will had managed the café for the past seven months.

With Elias Haddad of Mezatt winding up his lease of the kitchen, the golf club approached Will and Corry. The broth- ers in law leapt at the opportunity to start a venture together.

“One door closes and another opens,” said Will philosophically.

“This is a fantastic op- portunity. We believe there’s a market for a pizza and pasta place in Foster.”

He would, he said, be keeping on any of the staff who wished to stay through the transition from Mezatt to OK Pizza Pasta.

Will’s cooking will be familiar to many locals through his time at the Fishy Pub, which he ran with his wife, Rebecca, for two years. He has also worked at the pub at Foster and he ran a pub in Queensland for four years.

Corry has a strong background in fine din- ing. He had a traditional training as a chef in Mel- bourne and worked there in various distin- guished restaurants and also cooked in the UK during a two-year period of travelling before his three years at Henrietta’s.

Elias finished up at Mezatt with a Lebanese banquet on June 12. Days later Will and Corry took over. That was little more than a week ago, just enough time to carry out some refurbishment work in the kitchen, in- cluding the purchase of those staple items in an Italian kitchen – a pizza oven and a dough mixer.

OK Pizza Pasta at 7 Reserve Street, Foster, is open every day except Monday (winter hours). As well as lunch from 12noon to 2pm, the opening hours are 5.30pm to 9pm Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday and 5.30pm to 10pm Friday and Sat- urday. Ring 5682 2986 for bookings and takea- way orders.
