Meeniyan Community Garden gets a JumpStart!

THE  Meeniyan Community Garden will receive $10,000 to deliver a community-led initiative to help promote healthy eating and build strong community connections.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien says the funding is being provided after Meeniyan Community Garden Inc made a successful application to VicHealth’s recent JumpStart! funding round.

The Meeniyan Community Garden will use the grant to facilitate its Friends of the Garden program which offers skills-based workshops where participants will learn about using social media and other media to share garden updates and connect about growing strategies.

“The community garden in Meeniyan is a thriving community hub and I am excited to see how this funding will help improve their already successful program offerings,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I had the pleasure of visiting the garden recently and was impressed by all the obvious hard work that has been put in by the volunteers there and to hear about the programs already on offer.

“Local initiatives like these are a great way of building and improving social connections within our local communities.”

Mr O’Brien said VicHealth’s JumpStart! grants are currently closed to new applications, but new funding rounds and streams are expected to open later in the year.
