Medals for Nadia and Jim at Government House

AUSTRALIA Day 2023 Honours List medals were presented to their Victorian recipients during a series of ceremonies held at Government House in Melbourne last week.

Wilsons Promontory ecology advocate Jim Whelan was given his Public Service Medal (PSM) on Tuesday April 4, and Fish Creek community legend Nadia Stefani received her Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) on Thursday April 6, 2023.

The Governor of Victoria, the Hon. Linda Dessau AC CVO, presided at the ceremonies, with about 80 recipients, each accompanied by up to four guests respectively, in attendance at the individual events.

Four of Nadia’s five children; Anna, Gabrielle, Michael and Corinna, were at Government House to see their mother accept her OAM, with her husband Frank, and second son Damien, there with them all in spirit if not actually in person.

Jim’s wife Heather, the couple’s two daughters, Tige and Kylie, and his sister, Linda Sclavos, witnessed the Governor presenting Jim with his PSM.

Nadia said the ceremony was “extra special” and that the Governor had told the recipients, “you must wear your medals, as you have deserved them”.

Jim said he and his family were “very impressed” during the ceremony and by the grandeur of Government House.

Both of the recipients and their families enjoyed the delicious morning tea that was served on each occasion, as well as the live music performed by a uniformed band in the gardens of the Government House.
