Foster RSL News and Views

AS mentioned previously, the Foster RSL rooms are closed until further notice.  However, administration of the Sub-Branch continues, with business dealt with as usual by the Sub-Branch secretary.  For this to happen there must be a safe place for the secretary to carry out the work, which means the rooms are off limits to everyone else apart from the cleaner. Please do not enter the rooms for any reason at present. Call 0468 376 961 or email [email protected].

The 100 club members draw continues but is being held in a different location at present.

ANZAC Day on April 25 will go ahead although the format of the day will be different from the usual program.

President Bruce Lester will conduct a short service of commemoration at the Cenotaph in Foster.  Senior vice president Ian Sutton will attend the flag and bugler Felicity Waite will play The Last Post.  People who normally lay a wreath or flowers at the Cenotaph are welcome to do so, but regrettably, the wider community is not encouraged to attend the service this year, due to social distancing requirements and compliance with Victoria’s rules regarding attendance numbers at events.  And for the same reason neither will there will be a service in the hall.  Likewise, the usual barbecue lunch at the RSL rooms will not be held.  However, the meaning of ANZAC Day in remembering and honouring Australians and New Zealanders killed or injured during war, and those who served their country, will still be upheld.

Anzac badges will still be available for purchase by the faithful members of the community who support our badge sales. A table displaying the badges will be placed outside the entrance to the RSL rooms in Main Street, Foster, and will operate on an honesty system.  Choose your badge, seal your money in an envelope from the table, then “post” the envelope through the letter slit in the front door.

The arrangements above concerning ANZAC Day will be posted on the noticeboard outside the RSL rooms and any changes that may occur before April 25 will also be found on the noticeboard. Best wishes to our members and veterans recovering from surgery or illness.  And congratulations to recent 100 club winners Rob and Pauline.
