Foster pool officially open!

• Extra 200 square metres of solar matting gives plenty of shade. • A constant temperature of around 29.1 degrees is very inviting.

BECAUSE of the extremely hot day on Wednesday December 13 it was decided the Foster Pool would open early this year.

There is much to celebrate and many people to thank for the constant water temperature, additional shade and full sunlight on the main pool from early in the morning.

On Friday morning at 7:30 the water was 29.1 degrees even after a chilly Thursday.

“We are very grateful for the donations and contributions of local organisations, the Bendigo Community Bank; Foster Rotary and Foster RSL as well as grants from South Gippsland Shire and the Gardiner Foundation,” said Ian Lyon, President of the Foster Swimming Pool Association Inc.

He said they also wish to thank the members of the Foster Swimming Pool Association in their fundraising efforts and Bec Matthews of Manna Gum Community House for her assistance in preparing the successful grant applications.

“We are fortunate to be approved as the first recipient of an Energy Innovation Co-op interest free loan of $20,000 which enabled the project to be completed in time for this summer season rather than have to wait another year of further grants applications and fundraising.

“We will have to raise this amount through new grant applications and fundraising over the next two years, but we are confident that the local community will again respond generously when we start passing the hat around for assistance in the new year,” Ian said.

There will be raffles, BBQ’s and the opportunity for the community to make donations.

“Well done to Shaun McRae of McRae Engineering for the aesthetic design and construction of the shelter and to Sunbather for advice and installation of the solar matting,” Ian said.

“Thanks also to Adam Bright of Core ‘n Saw for his support in getting the site cleaned up just in time.”

Season Passes are now available at the secondary college, primary school, Atoll travel and the pool.
