Celebrating our local women – ‘Girls of our Town’ on International Women’s Day

TWO big celebrations are planned on March 6 and 8 this year when Corner Inlet women are invited to celebrate some amazing work done by local women to build a successful community.

Organisers of the International Women’s day events hope many people will attend on the 6th at the Secondary College gymnasium, and the 8th at the Prom Country House Aged Care facility.

“We’re recalling how women rolled up their sleeves and worked so hard to establish medical services, kindergartens, the hospital, a library, a guide hall, a community bus … the list goes on.  You could not put a price on the voluntary work these women did, and it was for the future as well as for themselves and their families” organisers say.

The group which has been working since May last year on planning the events is Marge Arnup, Chris Kemper, Nan Mackay, Mohya Davies, Rosemary Francis, Meg Edwards, Jo MacKenzie and recently joined by Sally Baker and Rachel Sands.

The group acknowledges with gratitude the sponsorship by the Bendigo Community Bank, and the support of the Shire of South Gippsland.
