BREASTSCREEN Victoria’s hot pink travelling screening service van “Nina” is coming to Foster for a month from Monday September 25 to Friday October 27, 2023.
Nina will be parked in her usual spot when she visits Foster, which is in the grounds of the South Gippsland Hospital at 87 Station Road.
Women from throughout the Corner Inlet district who are aged between 50- and 74 years are eligible for a free breast screen.
All women in this age group should have a breast screen every two years, and they are invited to make a booking, either online at https://bookings.breastscreen.org.au or by ringing BreastScreen Victoria on 13 20 50.
A BreastScreen Victoria spokesperson said, “if you are between the ages of 50 and 74 and are due to have a breast screen but you’ve been putting it off, there’s no better time to screen than on the van in Foster.
“A breast screen every two years is the best way to find cancer early, before there are symptoms, and when treatment is most successful,” the spokesperson said.
“Breast screens are with a woman radiographer, they take only 10 minutes to do, and you don’t need a doctor’s referral or Medicare card, only an appointment.”
Nina, and her companion mobile screening van Marjorie, both use the same technology as BreastScrteen Victoria’s land-based clinics and have COVID-19 safe practices.
The two vans offer the same service as the clinics; the only difference is that the van is mobile and provides access to breast screens in regional and rural locations.
There will be 750 breast screen appointments available during the month Nina is in Foster, and bookings are being accepted ahead of her arrival at the South Gippsland Hospital.
