Australia Day celebrations

IN light of recent and current events I believe it would be best if we scale down our Corner Inlet Australia Day celebrations this year, and acknowledge and support those who are hurting at this time.

Therefore, I propose we change our plans to now conduct a “Community Support and Celebration Afternoon”. We would still have an award ceremony, and afternoon tea, but rather than paying for catering and music, we ask people to bring a plate of afternoon tea to share, with the money saved to be donated to the Fire Relief Fund. We would also have a call for donations of toiletries for those who have been displaced.

We will need to provide tables, chairs, tea and coffee, and cool drinks, and encourage local community groups to come along and set up a display to showcase the wonderful community support and engagement we have here in Corner Inlet.

I believe in this way we are able to celebrate all that is great here in Corner Inlet, while supporting those who are ‘doing it tough’ at this time.

I realise there is a market in Foster in the morning, and you may be busy, but trust you can still be involved by us holding the event in the afternoon (1.00-3.00) this year.

Thanks, and I know that together we can make Australia Day 2020, Foster’s 150th, and support for our friends in East Gippsland a memorable afternoon on Sunday January 26.
