This critically acclaimed film about fracking starring Matt Damon will screen for one night only at Warragul Cinema on Monday June 24. The 2012 release entitled ‘Promised Land’ was directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, Milk) and the showing in Gippsland comes at a time when concern about unconventional gas-drilling is on the rise.
“This issue is a global issue, and its really important for people in Gippsland to see the impacts this destructive industry has had in the United States,” said Lock the Gate Alliance Victoria Coordinator Ursula Alquier.
“Promised Land is an incredibly powerful film that focuses on the complex issues facing communities as these companies begin to roll into town.” She said the film had received wide praise and premiered at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival. “Its going to be an informative night out for people in our region concerned by this industry, but also a great opportunity for us to get together as a community and enjoy a great film!”
She said Warragul Cinema would be donating some profits made on the night to local groups campaigning on the issue.
