Sixties relived as school celebrates

FOSTER Primary School this week celebrated 50 years at its current site in Pioneer Street. Celebrations began with a concert last Thursday where students showed off their French in song and also performed songs from 50 years ago – the sixties – for which many of them dressed the part.

Then on Saturday a special art auction was held in the foyer of Foster’s arts centre. Up for sale were colourful paintings created by each grade at the school (each student contributed to their class’s piece) working with local artists Jacqui Dinsbergs, Lian Casson and Cat Wheeler, with each artwork then professionally framed. There was lively bidding for each of the nine or ten paintings, and the impressive sum of $3165 was raised for the school.

The art auction was followed by a dance, with music provided by a brilliant Melbourne-based sixties dance band, ‘The Substitutes.’ The dance, unfortunately, was not well attended, but those who did go had a great time and there were some fabulous costumes. More photos page 11.
