FOSTER & District Agricultural Society, which is responsible for the annual Foster Show, is in need of a new secretary and a new treasurer. At the annual general meeting last month both positions became available.
Denis O’Neill, who has held the position of secretary for the last few years, is stepping down, though he will stay on as assistant secretary and help a new secretary find their feet.
The same applies to Amanda Afflitto, treasurer for several years, who is stepping down to give someone else an opportunity in this important role. She will be assistant treasurer.
Both roles – secretary and treasurer – carry with them a small honorarium in recognition of the work involved, especially in the weeks leading up to the show in February.
Noel Afflitto is staying on as president of the agricultural society and John Sagasser as vice-president.
Noel said that the secretary and treasurer are assured of good support from an active committee. He said that the secretary role is essentially that of an events co-ordinator. He added that many of the tasks are delegated and there are now some excellent systems, including online, in place to ensure a streamlined process in producing the annual show.
Planning has begun already for the 2015 Foster & District Agricultural Show. It is expected to include an expanded Avenue of Agriculture, which was such a success in its inaugural year, organised by long-time committee member Robbie Davidson, with assistance from Amanda Mahomed.
Anyone who is interested in being either secretary or treasurer of the agricultural society is invited to phone Amanda Afflitto on 0411 478 744.
