DATES, the starting time and the venue have been set for South Gippsland Shire Council’s series of monthly, open-to-the-public meetings to be held during 2024.
The new year’s meeting schedule was determined and adopted at the final council meeting of 2023, conducted in Leongatha on Wednesday December 13.
The Victorian Local Government Act 2020 requires all municipalities in the State to fix in advance the date, time and place of all council meetings and any delegated committee meetings for the following calendar year.
The venue for the Shire’s open meetings in 2024 will be the Council Chambers in Michael Place in Leongatha, with all meetings beginning at 2 pm.
The first open meeting, number 491, will be held on Wednesday February 21, 2024.
South Gippsland Shire’s open ordinary meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday of each month, though there are three exceptions.
The June 2024 meeting, number 495, will take place on the fourth Wednesday, on June 26, to consider the Shire’s draft budget for 2024-2025.
Two meetings will be held in November 2024, with the ordinary open meeting number 500 scheduled for Wednesday November 20, while a special meeting number 501 to elect the municipality’s next mayor and deputy mayor has been organised for Wednesday November 27.
The last meeting for 2024 will be held on the second Wednesday in December, on December 11.
At the December 2023 meeting the council also authorised the shire’s chief executive officer (CEO) to change a meeting location “should that be warranted, due to the nature of business and availability of the Council Chambers, Leongatha”.
The council can also resolve and the CEO can decide, should circumstances ever require, to “change the date, time and place of, or cancel, any Council Meeting which has been fixed and must provide notice of the change to the public.”
