Public information forum: Coal seam gas exploration in South Gippsland

An Exploration Licence Application by Leichhardt Resources Pty Ltd (EL5416) has been lodged with the Department of Primary Industries on 22/2/12 to conduct exploration for Coal Bed Methane, also known as Coal Seam Gas, and Brown or Black Coal, in South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shires.

South Gippsland Shire Councillor Kieran Kennedy in association with the Tarwin Lower Venus Bay Association, Friends of Venus Bay Peninsula Inc, Tarwin Landcare Group, Friends of Cape Liptrap Peninsula, including Bald Hills & Kings Flat Reserves Inc and Walkerville Ratepayers & Residents Association Inc. issue an open invitation to attend an information session on Coal Seam Gas exploration and mining.

Guest speakers:

  • Cam Walker from Friends of the Earth will present on the science of CSG.
  • Merryn Redenbach from Doctors for the Environment will present on public health and environmental impacts, and
  • Michael Power from The Environmental Defenders Office Victoria will present on the legal rights of landowners, mining companies and law reform.
