Project comes to Foster

MARK McManus is General Manager of Operations of a local disability employment provider in Gippsland. He runs his own successful business and is currently participating in the Gippsland Community Leadership Program. However there was a time in his life when things spiraled out of control and reached depths that he thought he would never return from.

Mark is the founder of The Restoration Project – a Mental Health awareness and Drug and Alcohol Education and Prevention Service specialising in lived experience keynote speaking, family support, rehabilitation referral, and intervention guidance. He shares his harrowing story and path to recovery. Some of the topics covered include anxiety, self-esteem, depression, alcohol, narcotics, gambling, resilience, determination, and rehabilitation. Mark launched The Restoration Project to help educate people about mental health and the challenges of substance abuse and finding hope through adversity.

Football was Mark’s life and he played Representative Team football all the way through his Juniors. Then he suffered an injury that had a devastating effect on his self-esteem and started him on a downward spiral.

“I sought rehabilitation and set about on my recovery. My story is raw and powerful and breaks all the stigmas associated with mental health and addiction.” says Mark. “I wish to deliver hope to families and people who are suffering. I wish to educate the youth of the dangers of alcohol and narcotics and the effect they can have on your life.”

Mark is an established presenter and is sought after in the addiction and mental health space and has played a role in many people turning their lives around and living proof that nothing is impossible if you don’t give up. “I have always said education and prevention is where the biggest impact can be made,” said Mark

Mark is coming to Foster on the evening of Wednesday 3rd August as a guest speaker at Manna Gum Community House. “I met Mark at the Gippsland Community Leadership Program earlier this year, and I was thrilled when he offered to come to Foster,” said Bec Matthews, Manager of Manna Gum Community House. “I’ve heard him talk and he is incredibly inspiring, warm and generous. He makes his life an open book for the benefit of others. Hearing about somebody’s lived experience is very powerful.”

This is a free event and a light supper will be provided. For more information about the event call Manna Gum on 5682 1101, email [email protected] or make a booking through the website www.
