Following the ‘People’s Meeting’ at Sandy Point Hall on June 19, where more than 50 local residents urged the South Gippsland Shire Council to NOT reject the funding from the Fire Services Commissioner to establish a fire refuge in Sandy Point, Council passed a motion to seek ways to “hold over” the $251,000 for a fire refuge of some type at Sandy Point.
Council is now seeking ways of extending the deadline for finding a suitable fire refuge site.
