THE word started to get around at around 7.00pm on Friday night that all community sport would be cancelled on the weekend.
By the time Saturday morning had come around, local football and netball clubs were trying to disperse hot dogs, pies and the like as all games had to be cancelled.
It was meant to be the final round of matches in the Mid Gippsland Football Netball League prior to finals, and now with another lockdown the end of the season is well and truly up in the air.
The league is scheduled to meet next Monday to come up with another plan as to how and when they can finish the season.
Foster Football Netball Club president Ian Lyon said it is very disappointing that sport was cancelled across the whole state and it is difficult to see how the finals can now be finished, especially with Melbourne cases rising daily.
At some point an end date will have to be decided, whether it’s September or October, then work back to see if it is plausible to continue.
There would need to be some feedback from the players and coaches as to how long they would be prepared to keep training by themselves while in lockdown as well.
Local golf and bowls clubs are also closed but the rail trail has been getting a good work-out with people using the five kilometre distance as a guideline.
