West Gippsland Libraries announced last year that the ageing mobile library truck and trailer would be taken out of service and retired by the end of the financial year.

WGL also surveyed South Gippsland and Bass Coast Shires’ mobile library users last year to find out what they thought about the future provision of library services.

WGL announced it, “would boost library services to south coastal towns by replacing its South Coast Mobile truck with a combination of new methods designed to make library services accessible to more people.”

The towns of Coronet Bay, San Remo, Corinella, Kilcunda, Grantville, Fish Creek, Toora, Sandy Point, Tarwin Lower and Welshpool and Port Welshpool have been receiving a visit from the mobile library truck every week or fortnight, depending on the location, for a period of one to two hours at each stop.

The Foster Library will be opening for longer each week, with the extended hours scheduled to start from Monday May 13.

The library will be open from then between 10 am and 4.30 pm on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as from 10 am to 5 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, and from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturdays.24-hour after-hours access is expected to start at the Foster Library later this month, following the completion of $92,000 worth of renovation works, including a newly-located front door, new moveable shelving and carpet.
