THE official opening of Foster Swimming Pool for the 2015/16 summer season coincided with some scorching summer weather last weekend.
The pool was due to open on Saturday, December 19, but given the forecast of hot weather and the end of the school year, the pool opened a day earlier, on the Friday, to allow Foster Primary School’s grades three to six students to celebrate with a pool party. Members of the public were also welcome to go along to the pool, and over 100 people seized the opportunity and enjoyed a refreshing swim.
Well over 100 people went along to Foster Pool on Saturday for the ‘Santa’s Christmas Party’ season opening celebrations. With the outside temperature soaring to 40 or so, the pool was a great place to cool off. The pool committee had the barbecue going and everyone clearly enjoyed the chance to escape the searing summer heat with a relaxing dip or a lounge on the shaded lawns.
Similar numbers flocked to the pool on Sunday, when again the weather was sizzling hot and the cool waters of the pool provided welcome relief.
On Monday it was the turn of the early morning lap swimmers to appreciate Foster Pool. By then the weather was significantly cooler, and the swimmers were happy to be doing their laps in waters of a balmy 28 degrees. The pool will continue to open for early morning lap swimming from 7am to 9am Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, except public holidays. The next opportunity for an early morning swim will therefore be next Wednesday, December 30. After the new year, the pool will open for early morning swimming from Monday January 4, and then each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The swimming pool is being managed by the YMCA again this season. It is open to the public between 12pm and 7pm on all days above 25 degrees, based on the forecast for Leongatha. Up-to-date opening information can be viewed on Facebook and via the information board at the entrance to the pool.
The next special event at Foster Swimming Pool will be the ‘Minute to Win It Games’ on Friday January 8.
