AS A practical fundraiser, Welshpool and District Horticultural Society is selling a delightful and handy perpetual desktop calendar graced with photographs of exotic and native flowers, landscapes and fruit taken by Society members.
The calendar will be launched at the Society’s coming 50th annual Spring Flower Show, which will be held at Welshpool Hall on Friday October 29 and Saturday October 30.
Copies can also be ordered from Kate Crowl on 5682 2185.
Four A5 spiral-bound pages are devoted to each month and comprise the photograph, a month of dates with daily date boxes large enough to write in, a seasonal recipe, seasonal gardening notes and a space for making personal notes.
While the launch is timely for Christmas gift giving (including overseas presents as the calendar is quite light) and the 2011 year, the perpetual calendar design means it can be used for any year.
“Being priced at under $10, it’s an ideal gift,” Kate suggested.
The front cover photograph of pink Lillium ‘stargazer’ flowers was taken by Arie Bos.
Other photographs were contributed by Kate Crowl, Sandra Soderlund and Fleur Wheeler.
Recipes include desserts such as blueberry tart, mains including (for a bit of fun) camel stew, as well as cakes and preserves.
When gardeners can’t think of what to do with yet another zucchini, they can turn to the calendar for inspiration!
