BE QUICK to get your copies of the 2016 Foster & District Historical Society calendar!
The popular calendar has become something of a collector’s item since it was established several years ago as a fundraiser for the Historical Society.
The 2016 calendar has some amazing black and white photographs that will fascinate anyone with an interest in the history of the local district.
The cover carries the photograph of horses and a buggy on the ocean beach at Wilsons Promontory with Shellback Island in the background, while January is illustrated with an early aerial view of the light station at the Prom.
For something completely different, see April, which carries a 1902 photo of the barque ‘Strathgryfe’ at Waratah Bay, or June, which shows Church Hill in Foster when there were actually churches there.
Groups of people from yesteryear are always worth a look. Check out the Franklin River Fisherman’s Association from the early 1900s on the May page or how about the Toora Basketballers Football Team of around 1963 on the July page or September’s captivating photo of the Princess Carnival Fish Creek 1951!
There are lots more photos – one for each month. The calendar is a beautiful work of art and makes an attractive gift. Calendars are available now for $15 each from the usual outlets, including Glenns, Paragreen Real Estate and the Post Office in Foster or Toora Newsagency.
