FOSTER’S main hall, the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre, is to receive $165,000 in state government funding for refurbishment.
The Brumby Labor Government announced the grant shortly before it went into caretaker mode in the lead-up to the November 27 state election.
In addition to the $165,000 from the government, South Gippsland Shire Council will contribute $40,000 and the hall committee $15,000. The $220,000 total will allow for a new heating and air conditioning system in the hall, as well as repainting of the hall interior and replacement of the floor and kitchen.
Treasurer of the hall committee, Rob Paragreen, said he was thrilled that the committee’s funding application had been successful.
The hall is well used by the Foster community, especially by the Foster Amateur Music and Drama Association (FAMDA), Foster Probus Club and the regular Prom Country Farmers’ Market. The meeting rooms and kitchen facilities are also popular.
FAMDA is currently staging ‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ in the FWMAC.
