HAVE you heard of the Foster Community Association?
Are you aware that this organisation has been quietly working around town since 1998 to enhance and improve Foster?
“Over the years we have championed the Children’s Hub, the play area in the showgrounds, upgrading Foster North lookout and being involved with the Rail Trail, amongst many other projects,” said current president Jill Plowright. “More recently we lobbied for the path up to Ahern’s [fruit and vegie shop], which has now been installed, much to everyone’s delight.”
The community association’s next project is the rotunda by the bus stop in Main Street.
“This has become run down, the murals defaced and it’s a real blot on the streetscape,” said Jill. “A concerted drive combining several organisations is about to get underway. The secondary college students are painting new murals as well as repairing the woodwork, the South Gippsland Conservation Society have taken on the responsibility of renovating and maintaining the garden, the shire is supplying required materials. So next time you are around town check it out to see how work is progressing!”
“For many years there has been a need to improve parking and safe crossing for pedestrians along Main Street. This hasn’t been forgotten, but at the moment, with the sorry state of the shire’s coffers, it is proving a hard one to solve. We will, however, continue to lobby strongly for this important work, hoping it can get underway in the not too distant future,” added Jill.
As you can see, the Foster Community Association works hard to improve Foster. The group meets on the third Monday of the month, 7.30pm at the Foster Community Health Centre. New members are most welcome. Why not come along and find out more about this association and how by being a member you can help the town of Foster blossom?
The next meeting of the Foster Community Association will be held on Monday, July 15, at 7.30pm at the Community Health Centre attached to South Gippsland Hospital in Station Road, Foster. All welcome.
