Driver bolts after stolen truck tips over

VICTORIA Police are keen to hear from anyone who may be able help identify a driver who bolted from an allegedly stolen truck after it tipped over on the South Gippsland Highway at Foster on Thursday September 1, 2022.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said a motorist reported coming across a large Mack truck rolled on to its side but with nobody in or near the vehicle at about 4.30 am.

“The member of the public found the truck lying on the South Gippsland Highway near the Boolarra-Foster Road intersection and the entrance to the Foster tip,” they said.

“A number of used tyres that had evidently been on the truck were strewn across the highway, and damage to a roadside guard rail and the road surface was also apparent.

“It appears the truck had been stolen from metropolitan Melbourne some time before it came to grief on the South Gippsland Highway,” the police spokesperson said.

“The person who was driving the truck fled from the scene.

“VicRoads attended to assess the damage and the public will have noticed roadworks and associated signage on the highway a result of the incident.

“Inquiries are continuing into this matter, and Victoria Police would appreciate any information from the community, such as an eye witness account or dashcam footage,” they said.

“Please contact your local Victoria Police station or ring Crime Stoppers Victoria on 1800 333 000.”
