NOMINATIONS for eligible candidates considering standing in the South Gippsland Shire Council elections will open tomorrow – Thursday, September 20.
Anyone who is interested in representing their community on their local council is encouraged to stand as a candidate.
Acting Electoral Commissioner Liz Williams said: “Prospective candidates should act quickly to ensure they don’t miss out on lodging their nomination.”
Prospective candidates must lodge a correctly completed nomination form and a $250 fee with the Returning Officer for South Gippsland Shire Council by 12 noon next Tuesday, September 25. Appointments are encouraged for lodgement of nomination forms with the Returning Officer. Nomination forms can be downloaded from the website or can be obtained by contacting the Returning Officer, Sheryl Bruce, on (03) 5662 2218.
To save time at the election office, candidates can pre-fill their nomination using the VEC’s online Candidate Helper at www.vec.vic.gov.au. The nomination, however, cannot be finalised until the form is physically lodged with the Returning Officer and the fee is paid.
For further information on nominating as a candidate, contact the Returning Officer, Sheryl Bruce, on (03) 5662 2218 or visit www.vec.vic.gov.au.
