ON Saturday 24th February 2024, thousands will gather at the Foster Showgrounds in Foster, for the fantastic Foster Show. Foster Show secretary, Denia Gilheany, said last year was “a successful show, with lots of comments about it being a traditional agricultural show which is nice to hear”. This is something the show committee are proud of, and hope to continue to build the show whilst keeping true to its roots in providing a showcase of the best livestock, craft, and produce.
New additions to the show over last few years have proven popular, like the Young Farmers Challenge, organised by 2023 Runner Up National Rural Ambassador Alexandra Pattinson- “The YFC attracts a crowd of young adults battling it out in a series of agriculturally inspired practical and theoretical challenges, with an emphasis on safety and education”. The Giant Pumpkin display has brought out a competitive nature in our local green thumbs, and Fashions on the Field has drawn a crowd as people support local or recyclable fashion for their presentations. New to 2024, the Scarecrow competition and Spouse Shout will provide ongoing entertainment for all involved.
The heart of the Foster Show is the traditional competitions. Our ever popular Dog High Jump boosts a crowd, the Sheep Display highlights the life of wool, the Exhibit Shed showcases local baking, crafting, and gardening extraordinaries; horses parade in the main arena, and strength is sported in the Woodchop! There is something for everyone.
A great family day out, the Foster Show has a great program for kids in 2024. Starting with our Golden Brick Road showbags with activities for kids, magic shows, animal nursery, wildlife display, library and book reading, Tiny Gardner workshops, Bricks 4 Kidz Lego workshops, showday competitions and more! Whilst you’re there, check out the Avenue of Agriculture, working dog demonstrations, whipcracking displays, Pet Parade, cat show, donkeys, vintage tractors and sideshow alley. The Foster Show are excited to be hosting the 2024 Victorian Sheaf Tossing Championships. With classes for novice and female competitors, you too can learn to hurl a burlap sack of wheat at great heights! Who knows, maybe you will take home a prize?
All exhibit entries are due for drop off this Friday 23rd February between 8am and 3:30pm. Judging will commence at 4pm. Online entries and payment will be received until Wednesday 21st February. Photography entries and entries via post or Foodworks have closed. Planning for show day is easy, with plenty of information available at www.fostershow.com or via our Facebook page www. facebook.com/fosteragshow.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate. Kids under 12 are FREE in 2024, so bring the entire family for the day out! As parking can get a bit tight, there will be shuttle buses available from Meeniyan, Fish Creek & Toora on the day. Do not miss the action at the Foster Show, with all the information you need on our website.
Spending the day at the Foster Show is a fantastic way to experience a farming community, with lots of fun and friendly faces. We’ll see you there!
