Cup Weekend roundup

THERE is much on offer in the district over Cup Weekend and whether your taste runs to flowers and plants, art and craft or to finding a great bargain, it’s the perfect time to get out and about. Here’s a selection of activities and events on offer.

Fundraisers

  • A Pink Ribbon Day morning tea garden party will be held at the home of Heather and Ivan Ray at 22 Ameys Track, Foster on Monday from 10am to midday. Entry $10.
  • THE South Gippsland Hospital’s Murray to Moyne team and Foster Medical Centre are holding a joint Monster Garage Sale to raise funds for the hospital and Emergency Medicine Fund this Sunday (October 30) from 8am in the carpark behind the Hospital’s Community Health Centre.   • FOSTER Primary School is holding a Trivia Night on Friday night at 7pm for 7.30pm start at FWMAC Hall. Deaksy from 3GG will be emcee. Buy tickets at $10 pp at school office.
  • WHY not have a night out this Friday and enjoy a meal at the Foster Golf Club? $1 from every meal sold on Friday night will be donated to the 2017 South Gippsland Relay for Life.

Music

  • THE final concert in the Cafe Culture Series 2016 will be Kelly Auty’s ‘Backwards in High Heels’ at the Toora Hall on Sunday night starting at 7.30pm sharp. Tickets $20 ($17 concession), contact 5682 1166.

Just for farmers

  • A FREE Pamper Day has been organised by the Gippsland Farmer Relief Inc. for local farming families, (particularly dairy farming families) from 11am to 2pm this Sunday at the Boolarra Multipurpose Building. Reiki, massage, kinesiology, meditation, Bowen Therapy, makeovers and counselling will be offered by qualified therapists and there will be activities for children. Bookings are essential. Horticulture

  • Welshpool Spring Flower Show is to be officially opened Friday at 1.30pm by Shire gardener Paul Robinson. The Show continues Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm. Come along to see gorgeous displays of plants, veggies, flowers and garden photography – and make sure you visit the Plant Stall.
  • MEENIYAN Progress Association is to present a Meeniyan Farm and Garden Open Day this Saturday (October 29). Tickets ($10 per person) and maps will be available on the day from 9am to 4pm at the Meeniyan Town Hall. Open for viewing this year is an olive grove which produces oil, honey and truffles, a dairy farm, a productive garden, a weekender property with home-made mud pizza oven, and the Meeniyan Community Garden.

Exhibitions

  • Stockyard Gallery: Artwork created by South Gippsland Secondary College is on display daily from 10am to 4pm. The gallery is located near the roundabout, corner of Main and McDonald streets, Foster.
  • Gecko Studio Gallery: ‘The Gathering’ – an exhibition of works by various artists is on display daily (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) from 10am to 4pm. The gallery is located at 15 Falls Road, Fish Creek.
  • Meeniyan Art Gallery: ‘The Artist Book’ by various artists in the Main Gallery. ‘Small Sculptures’ by Laurie Collins, Yvonne Wells, Lynne Stone, Meg Viney-Bell, Regina Dudek, Bob Hickman, Christine Beehag and Geoff Robson begins on Friday and officially opens Sunday at 2pm. Open 11am to 5pm weekends and public holidays, Monday 10am to 4pm.
  • Fish Creek Hotel ArtSpaces: Exhibitions Halo de Misterio by Sue Gilford and Ashes to Dust by Ian Bevington are on display daily from around 11.30am.
  • The Hub, Fish Creek: Watercolours by local artist Ann Todd Foulds. The Hub is located between the Post Office and the General Store and is open daily from 10.30am to 4pm.

Markets and Bazaars

  • THE Promontory Produce & Craft Market will be held at the Foster Showgrounds this Sunday morning. (No dogs allowed).
  • The Second Fish Creek Collective Bazaar will be held in the Fish Creek Memorial Hall on Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 5pm on both days, featuring collectables, clothing – designer, vintage, women’s, men’s and children’s, books, vinyl, Swarovski crystals, furniture, and much more. Please note that this is a cash only Bazaar.

Action, thrills & spills

  • Dog Trials and Aussie Dog Idol at Beloka Kelpie Stud, South Gippsland Highway, Welshpool. A great weekend for all the family – BYO dog on lead. The great outdoors

  • SOUTH Coast Boardriders annual Registration Day is to be held on Sunday opposite the Sandy Point shops from 9am to 12 noon. There will be a free showbag / welcome pack for all kids who join up, a surfing session at 11am with tips from club coaches and a display of retro surfboards from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
