Whether you are a camper at Waratah Bay Caravan Park (Campers Team) or a resident, a resident’s family/friend, or a day visitor to Waratah Bay (Warratites Team), there is a shield to be won and honour upheld by helping accumulate the greatest number of points over the day.
An excellent event for spectators too with music and food – including strawberries and cream – to enjoy.
The picnic starts with registration at 10.30am at the Waratah Bay Recreation Reserve (corner Gale and Moongana Streets) then moves to the beach at 11.00am for the first event – a 30-minute sand castle competition – before returning the recreation reserve where games start at 12.30pm.
The day ends with a lolly scramble for the children and presentation of the Charlie Brown Shield to the winning team.
The event is named in honour of a reclusive but legendary beachcomber who came to live at Waratah Bay and is still remembered more than 50 years after his death – notably for selling strawberries and cream to beach visitors and for having a vision of the location as a wonderful place for families to enjoy themselves.
Please note no alcohol due to public place regulation.
