Warm up this Saturday at ‘Meeniyan on Fire’

BEAT the winter blues this Friday by going along to the Meeniyan Hall 75th birthday celebrations, followed on Saturday by the annual ‘Meeniyan on Fire’ festival, where there will be free live music, activities and entertainment for all the family.

Beginning at 4.30pm on Friday, movies will be screened which the children will love, including Bugs Bunny, Laurel and Hardy and Charlie Chaplin. These will presented absolutely free of charge to the young and the young at heart.

At 7.30pm, be entertained by the Tarwin Valley Primary School choir, and then sit, back, relax and watch news, shorts and another Charlie Chaplin movie from 8pm at the hall. Entry is free, (though donations are very welcome).

Organised by the Meeniyan Tourism & Traders Association (MTTA), the festival itself will begin on Saturday at 9am and continue until 2pm.

The festival gets bigger and better each year, and this year is sure to be no exception. Be entertained by live music, laugh at the antics of Koko the clown, watch ‘medieval knights’ in action, marvel at the grace of the roving stilt walker, and travel up and down the main street in the style of yesteryear by horse and cart.

The children will love having their faces painted, and there will be a petting zoo and jumping castle to enjoy. The kids can have fun while gaining some useful fire-safety knowledge in the CFA Smoke House, and the adventurous (young or not so young) can try their skill on the abseiling wall.

You can spend time browsing the stalls which will line Whitelaw Street – who knows what you may find? Local businesses will also be taking part, so make sure to drop in and be sure to visit the Meeniyan Hall to see the display of hall memorabilia.

The MeeniyanTourism & Traders Association appreciates the support of the South Gippsland Shire Council and the Toora & District Community Bank®, Foster branch & Meeniyan Agency in bringing the ‘Meeniyan on Fire’ Festival to the community and its visitors.

Following the ‘Meeniyan on Fire,’ be entertained on Saturday evening from 8pm by the music of the McCrackens – a six piece band of superb local musicians who will entertain at the Meeniyan Hall. Entry is just $15, and its BYO drinks, glasses and nibbles. Bookings are essential by calling Eric on 5664 7376 or by emailing [email protected]
