Prize money and prestige for Rural Ambassadors

THE search is on for young people to represent Foster and District Show in the Rural Ambassador Awards. It’s a great opportunity and there is only until February 14 to apply!

Victorian Agricultural Shows Ltd, through country shows such as the Foster and District Show, runs the Rural Ambassador Awards as a way of highlighting the talent, creativity and ingenuity of young rural people and encouraging them to be role models in their communities.

The event is sponsored at State level by Kubota and at local level by the Rotary Club of Foster.

RURAL AMBASSADOR AWARD

The Rural Ambassador Award is for young people from 20 to 30 years of age.

The award is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Foster and includes a first prize of $75 plus certificate and a second prize of $25 – and lots of prestige, which looks excellent on a CV!

The award aims to encourage and reward enthusiastic, skilful and industrious young people who are involved in their communities. Their participation assists entrants develop strong communication and leadership qualities. They gain greater proficiency in their chosen field and develop their stature and reputation in that field.

Entrants must be aged over 20 years and under 30 years as at 1 May, 2011.

They may be involved in a rural or agricultural based industry or be associated with a show society but do not necessarily need to live in a rural community.

To enter, phone Foster Show Secretary Rhonda Bland (Mob. 0457 316 497) for an official entry form, complete the entry form and forward to the Show Secretary, PO Box 150, Foster 3960 by Monday 14 February 2011.

Provide information indicating your reason for applying for entry together with a curriculum vitae, indicating work experience, community participation, agricultural and show involvement if applicable.

The Foster & District Show winner will go on to the regional Group Finals. All Group winners compete in the State Finals. The State Final winner will receive a major prize and the opportunity to compete in the National Finals.

JUNIOR SHOW AMBASSADOR

The Junior Show Ambassador contest is open to young people from 16 to 19 years of age.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Foster, it offers a first prize of $35 and a lapel badge and a second prize of $15.

The aims of the Junior Show Ambassador contest are to give young people a chance to take part in a competition whilst still residing in their local district, to be part of a local show and so highlight the importance of shows, and to meet new people from all age groups with similar interests.

Entrants must be aged between 16 and 19 years at time of the show (February 26, 2011).

Entrants will then be asked to come along for judging by two judges. This will consist of a semi-formal interview in which you will be asked questions about yourself and assessed against the judging criteria.

The Foster & District Show winner will represent their Agricultural Society at the regional Group Finals. All Group winners compete in the State Finals run by VAS Ltd. The winner at State level will receive an Education Grant.
