Fatal road accident

A 29-YEAR-OLD Foster man was killed in a single vehicle accident on the South Gippsland Highway at Foster in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

The driver, the sole occupant of the car, was heading up the highway out of Foster, towards Leongatha, at about 3am, when his car skidded in the wet conditions and the driver lost control. His vehicle collided with a tree on the south side of the highway in the vicinity of Lundstroms Road.

Police from Foster, Leongatha and Wonthaggi attended the accident scene, as well as the Fish Creek road rescue crew, Foster SES and Foster CFA.

Shooting incident and Dumbalk

A MAN was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg following a shooting incident at Dumbalk North last Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to a residence on the Foster-Mirboo North Road around midday after a 45-year-old man threatened to harm himself with a firearm.

Police negotiators were called in and tried to negotiate with the man for a number of hours. The man was in a highly agitated state and armed with a shotgun when he confronted police in the front yard just after 4pm. He was subsequently shot in the leg by a member of the Special Operations Group. He was taken to hospital in Melbourne in a stable condition.

As with any police shooting, the Ethical Standards Department have been notified and attended to oversee the investigation, assisted by some members of the Crime Department.
