The Foster and District Historical Society, was formed at a public meeting in Foster on 3 August 1973 (formerly The Shire of South Gippsland Historical Society).

Over the years the Society has amassed a treasure trove of photographs and memorabilia from Foster’s rich and colourful past, and these are displayed for public viewing in Foster’s ever-popular Museum situated in Main Street.  The Museum complex comprises the former Foster Post Office built in 1890, a one-teacher school building, a cottage, a bark hut and a more modern prefabricated school building used as a hall, is set in a terraced garden with Kaffir Hill at the back and Pearl Park in front.

Members run the museum, organise regular meetings with knowledgeable speakers, conduct excursions to places of interest and tours for schools and interested groups.

Membership is $12 per year and is open to everyone interested in the history of Foster and district.

For details of the latest exhibition and opening times, visit www.promcountryhistory.org.au

We meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm at the Museum.
