Local RSL membership marching on towards 150

THE Foster sub-branch of the RSL reached the membership figure of 147 last Friday.

This is a massive and relatively sudden increase since January 1 of this year, which at the time saw only 46 members.

Secretary Perce Brewer has been on an extensive drive this year to enlist new members, and has been very successful – so much so that there are now several new members between the ages of 18 to 31, which is a first!

Both Perce and president Les Wilkins are very pleased with this result, contributing it to the raised awareness of the community spirit in the sub-branch, which is a comfortable place to amalgamate with friends who share a common interest.

The committee recently held elections of office bearers. Les Wilkins will continue as president for a further 12 months, the new senior vice president is Bruce Lester, and new junior vice president is Jim O’Day. Perce has been re-elected as secretary for two years from February 2012, and Les Francis as treasurer for a period of two years.

Not only are there additional members to the sub-branch, but there are also two new important features. The Desal Workers Social Committee has been very generous in donating to the RSL a 50″ plasma TV, and an iPad.

Les, Perce and committee members are very grateful for this generous donation to the RSL, and wish to thank the Desal Workers Social Committee for their wonderful generosity.
