Farmers’ market celebrates 3rd birthday this Saturday

THE Prom Country Farmers’ Market is on again in the grounds of the Foster War Memorial Arts Centre this Saturday, November 20, commencing at 8.00am.

This month the market is celebrating its 3rd birthday with live music and a school choir performance.

A highlight of the morning will be the presentation of cooking demonstrations by Foster Primary School kitchen specialist Kim Albert and students involved in the school’s kitchen garden program. Stallholders are donating seasonal fresh food to add to the produce coming from the school’s garden. There will be food to taste and recipes available. Come and see how the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program continues to be enthusiastically embraced by the students of Foster Primary School.

This month the market sees the return of 100% Fruit Delights, a popular stall at which buyers queue up on sunny days. The frozen fruit is blended together to produce appetizing treats, topped with home grown raspberries and blueberries. There are no preservatives, sugar, colouring or dairy included, making a very healthy delightful alternative for all to savour.

The market will also welcome the return of locally grown and roasted hazelnuts presented by Ian Sandiford of Foster North.

Another new stall for this month will be Cara’s Fine Foods, a spectacular presentation of dried spices developed by chef Cara Stuart of Stony Creek.

For anyone starting a vegie garden, there will be a range of seedlings available as well as a wonderful display of locally grown native flowers.

The market follows the philosophies of the Victorian Farmers Market Association and only local produce and value added products from the region are available, direct from the grower/specialty food maker. The market is always influenced by the nature of seasonal farming and a wider range of produce will be available when growing conditions improve. Whilst Fosters Farmers’ Market may be regarded as petite, its value to local small producers and the community is immense.

Do you have a different product to add to the market’s mix? Stallholder enquiries are always welcome. Please contact Juneen on (mobile) 0427 809 509.
