Cup weekend round-up

CUP fever is about to start, so here’s a selection of events to get everyone off and running.

Friday 1.30pm: the official opening of the Welshpool and District Horticultural Society’s 52nd Spring Show, continuing until 5pm and open Saturday 10am to 4.30pm.

Friday 8pm: The official opening of the Meeniyan Art & Craft Show, with cheese, wine and announcements of winning entries. Meeniyan Hall, 8pm. $15 entry. The exhibition continues Saturday, Sunday, Monday 10am to 5pm and Tuesday 10am until 1pm ($2 entry, children free).

Saturday – Working Dog Festival Beloka Kelpie Stud, South Gippsland Highway, Welshpool begins beginning at 8am. Continues Sunday. See page 11 for details.

Saturday through to Tuesday 10am to 5pm, Fish Creek Art Group’s ‘Drawn Together’ exhibition at Lyre Bird Hill Winery, Koonwarra. Pizza available for lunch between 12 noon and 3pm on Sunday and Tuesday.

Saturday from 2pm: Equine Carnival art exhibition at Toora Village Gallery Studio , 25 Stanley Street, Toora. Continues 10am to 4pm Sunday and Tuesday.

Saturday 7.30pm – ‘Think Pink Cabaret’ a National Breast Cancer Awareness event. Dress for the Cup but think Pink! Entertainment by ‘Cool Dog’. $25 per person, table bookings, no tickets at door, pre-purchase only. Call Karena on 0409 832 418.

Saturday 8pm – ‘Jazz Among The Arts’ – Soul Purpose perform at the Meeniyan Art and Craft Show, Meeniyan Hall, tickets $20, BYO nibbles, drinks and glasses. Free tea and coffee. Call Eric on 5664 7376.

Sunday: the first Promontory Home Produce and Craft Market of this season – beginning at around 8am at the Foster Showgrounds. This market began back in 1978 with 20 stalls – there’s now approximately 200 stalls with a great variety of goods on offer.

Sunday 11am to 1pm – the official opening of the Foster Photography Club’s annual exhibition at Stockyard Gallery, corner Main and McDonald streets, Foster – continues daily 10am to 4pm until November 12.

Sunday 10am to 4pm -Garden Walks: visit four beautiful gardens at Meeniyan and be inspired. $10 ticket available at Meeniyan Hall entitles entry to all four gardens.

Monday 7pm – three course Winemaker Dinner at Moo’s at Meeniyan hosted by Waratah Hills Winery to celebrate Cup Eve and the US election. Wear your red, white and blues. $80 per person includes dinner, wine, cheese and coffee. Bookings essential. Phone Moo’s for bookings on 5664 0010.

Tuesday – family day at Fishy Pub from 11.45am. Kid’s artwork table, jumping castle, face painting, nibbles. Adults glass of champers, nibbles, sweeps, music, fashions, and a raffle. Proceeds to the Fishy Kindergarten. Tickets at door $12 (kids over 4 $5).

Tuesday – watch the big race on the big screen at OK Pizza Pasta, Foster Golf Club. Sweeps throughout the day, fashion parade and lots of fun! Three course seafood and cold meat buffet, $35. Prizes for best dressed lady and gentleman and for best hat. Phone 5682 2986.

Tuesday – chicken and champagne lunch at Waratah Lodge. Watch the race on the big screen. $25 includes chicken and salad lunch, sweeps ticket and glass of champagne. Book now on 0437 033 464.
