Book now for hard waste collection

THE new Hard Waste Collection Service offered by South Gippsland Shire Council, is now taking bookings for pick-up during September and October.

This service is to be offered each year, with bookings taken during July and August.

The service is delivered on a ‘fee for service’ basis – with a fee of $75 per property or a reduced fee of $25 for Pension Card holders. Fees must be charged as council has to pay a contractor for each collection carried out.

All residential properties are eligible, including those in rural areas. Commercial and industrial properties are not eligible for a hard waste service.

Residents can make a booking by completing and returning a Service Booking Form, along with payment for the service at the time of booking. Bookings need to be made during July and August. Payments can be made in person at the council’ Customer Service desk, by completing the credit card payment information on the booking form, or enclosing a cheque with the booking form when returning it to council.

Once booked, the council’s contractor will notify you in September of your scheduled collection date. You need to place your hard waste out for collection within your property’s boundary (where possible) and label the pile in a manner that clearly identifies it as waste to be collected by the hard waste collection contractor. Council’s contractors will come on the specified day and remove the hard waste.

A maximum of two cubic metres (for example 1m wide x 1m high x 2m long) of waste will be collected from properties which have booked and paid for a collection.

Items which can be included in the collection include scrap metal, empty clean paint tins (lids off), crockery and china, household furniture, household appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines and dishwashers, timber (less than 1.5m in length, electrical appliances, mowers, small car parts, rolls of floor covering (within size and weight restrictions).

Items which cannot be collected include anything over 1.5 meters in length, any single item weighing in excess of 60kg, trade waste from industrial or commercial premises, car batteries, chemicals or asbestos, tyres or liquid waste. For further information and a full list of excluded items, visit www.southgippsland.vic.gov.au or phone 5662 9200.
